Malaysian Ports & Maritime Week 2021

In today’s port business, there is an increasing expectation to focus on local issues and respond to emerging global issues and trends. Stakeholders, including the financial sector, expect businesses to demonstrate a focus on sustainability and resiliency. The COVID-19 pandemic presents new and unprecedented impacts on global supply chains and the port and shipping industry. Any sudden drop in consumer demand has an immediate impact on shipping and port operations activity levels and may alter corporate strategies or even market structures. Worldwide there is significant reliance on certain shipping routes, evidenced by the 2021 Suez Canal blockage and the impact that this had on trade and oil prices. Should a similar yet longer-term maritime event or accident occur, or a geopolitical issue arises, certain shipping lanes may be compromised and result in an inability for vessels to transport through particular waters. Such a situation could either prevent trade with certain countries or lengthen transportation times. The last twelve months have held witness to a
challenged yet resilient Malaysian supply chain despite a multitude of international crises.

Malaysian Ports & Maritime Week 2021 is a Two Days Conference that will be focusing on “Transformation towards Sustainable and Resilient Port Amidst Rising Uncertainty, Disruptions, and Climate Risks”. The event creates an unrivaled platform for the Port & Logistics
Professionals to discuss, develop and plan strategies for the upliftment of the sectors on a global scale.

The event brings together top-level speakers and decision-makers under one roof making it one of the most efficient platforms to collaborate and exchange information on various aspects from new trends in the global trade, innovation, sustainability & hearing the most recent trade and shipping pattern

Resilient Cities Forum 2021

COVID-19 presents a unique opportunity for cities to learn from their experience in combatting the virus to be better prepared for future emergencies. The pandemic’s unprecedented impact on every aspect of urban life has provided compelling data and information about how to improve crisis responses and recovery strategies. In economic recovery programs, a balance has to be struck between re-opening too fast and risking a second wave and moving too slowly and failing to kick-start growth. The key is flexibility and agility. Urban leaders must have policies and protocols in place that will allow cities to operate in multiple modes, from full-crisis lockdowns through phased re-opening to an eventual return to normal activity – but always with the potential to move rapidly into reverse gear.

Collaboration across governments to drive decision-making in an environment of constrained funding resources is an ever-present challenge however, in a COVID-19 impacted environment, it is increasingly important to deliver good outcomes for communities. The role of government in delivering an effective framework of economic development initiatives has never been more important as the economy recalibrates and moves toward a new reality.

Our mayors, governors, and community leaders must do whatever is necessary to get their cities back up and running as soon as they safely can. Thereafter, we will need plans in place to prepare for future pandemics, and any social or economic lockdowns they necessitate. The federal government must do its part too, with bold and unprecedented programs to bolster the economic situation of our states and cities as well as our workers and business, especially small businesses.
